Sydney has by far the largest toll network in the country, spread across a web of motorways, tunnels and bridges. Most of the roads price either by distance travelled or by a fixed flagfall for using them, and the harbour crossings are priced by time of day, so a peak-hour crossing costs more than an off-peak one.

Because the network is so extensive, regular drivers can rack up tolls quickly. New South Wales runs a state toll-relief scheme aimed at drivers who spend heavily on tolls, which can offset some of that cost for those who qualify. Toll reliefNSW toll relief rebate — $50/week cap (lowered from $60 on 6 July 2026, applying for 12 months). Personal toll account holders with privately registered vehicles who spend over $50/week on tolls can claim a rebate via Service NSW for spend between $50 and $400 a week per eligible token, up to $350/week per token and $5,000/year per customer; paid 10-15 business days after claim approval. The previous $60/week cap covered toll spend 5 Jan 2026 - 5 Jul 2026 (it did not end 1 Jan 2026 — it ran until being lowered to $50). Toll-notice admin fees abolished from 1 July 2026.
