About RegoWise

RegoWise is a plain, source-stamped reference for what a car actually costs to own and run in Australia. Registration fees, vehicle stamp duty, demerit points and fines, CTP cover, fuel and trip costs, tolls, and EV incentives are all here, and every figure is transcribed from the official government schedule that sets it. Each number carries a link back to that source and the date it took effect.

We built RegoWise because these costs are public but scattered. Every state and territory publishes its own rego fees, its own duty formula, and its own penalty schedule, in its own format, on its own site. Ask a plain question, like what it costs to register a car or how much duty falls on a used one, and you end up comparing eight separate government websites or trusting a comparison page that quotes a stale range. We pull the official tables into clean lookups and working calculators, so you can see your number and the government table it came from, side by side.

The site covers all eight states and territories: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory. Where the rules differ across borders, and they differ a lot, we show each jurisdiction on its own terms rather than flattening them into one average.

RegoWise is published by Inventum, an Australian company. Pages carry the byline RegoWise Editorial, and we work on a brand-as-author model: a named publisher stands behind the whole site, the way we source and calculate is written out in full on our methodology page, every dataset is dated, and mistakes get fixed through a single corrections inbox. We don't invent authors or personas. If a page is wrong, you're writing to the people who publish it.

Our promise is simple. Every figure shows the official source and the date it was current. Our rego and stamp-duty calculators are reconciled against each state's own official calculator on several test values before they go live, so the answer you get here matches the answer the government's own tool would give.

RegoWise is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government agency, road authority or revenue office. We link to the official sources; we are not one of them, and we can't process a registration, a transfer or a fine.
